Spend some time with Pixar’s cast of core emotions. From Inside Out: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, Disgust; and new to Inside Out 2: Anxiety, Shame, Envy, Ennui, (and a tiny bit of Nostalgia). Meet these characters within yourself and your SoulCollage® deck. Learn how they present as allies and challengers. Raise your awareness of how and why your “buttons” become “sooo… sensitive.” Observe your emotions internally and as outward expressions.
I encourage you to watch the films before the workshop, or at least one of them. Inside Out is currently available from several streaming services; Inside Out 2 is available from Disney+ or for rental/purchase from Amazon Prime and elsewhere.
What to expect
First exploration: Welcoming and befriending our core emotions. We’ll identify existing and future cards that represent core emotions and learn how they help and hinder us. We may discover ways to support these Neters and help keep them in balance to serve us well.
Adventure 2: Our dances with Fear and Anxiety. With support from the amazing duo of Joy and Sadness, we’ll invite Fear and Anxiety to introduce themselves in a space of safety and gratitude. Humor and clear perspectives will guide us to a deeper understanding of how these emotions, separately and together, can become insightful allies.
Adventure 3: Joy and Sadness welcome Ennui. Inside Out’s characters Joy and Sadness have created a tender working relationship, which can be an inspiration for all of us seeking to befriend our emotions. Ennui’s appearance (at Riley's puberty in the film) provides an interesting look at how “tuning out” and taking a break can serve us in times of emotional upheaval. We’ll have some fun exploring our coping mechanisms and our capacities to welcome both happiness and sorrow. With our cards, we will search for dynamic duos, the precious dichotomies within.
Closing: Small group sharing and group ritual
Optional discussion and Q/A - 30 minutes
